AUTONOMOUS URBANISM: Towards a New Transitopia & DESIGNING ADAPTIVE KITCHENS FOR ACTIVE AGING CLIENTS
1 evening 2 programs 2 LU/HSW:
The first lecture launches the newly published book monographAutonomous Urbanism: Towards a New Transitopia ) authored by New York Tech Assistant Professor Evan Shieh.
In this two-volume set, one book depicts the narrative experience of this future city through the format of an architectural graphic novel. The other lays the framework for that speculative future, grounding it in urban mobility history, transportation policies, and multi-scalar spatial typologies. By envisioning this future guided by design and policy actions, this book contends that cities can transition from the Autopias of today, to the Transitopias of tomorrow. This is a big shift. Are cities and their inhabitants ready?
The second lecture, DESIGNING ADAPTIVE KITCHENS FOR ACTIVE AGING CLIENTS :Aging is traditionally seen as a negative experience fraught with challenges and limitations. Baby Boomers are changing that narrative and reshaping what it means to age for themselves and future generations. With this shift comes a heightened sense of health, wellness, and desire to stay at home — to live in place. To accomplish that, architects and designers must approach adaptive kitchens to suit the changing needs of older adults as well as multigenerational users.

Electronic Leak Detection for Roofing, Waterproofing and the Building Envelope
2LU/HSWs
The failure to detect and correct membrane defects during and as soon as possible after its installation can cause premature failure of the membrane. Problems include design deficiencies, faulty application of the membrane system and damage by subsequent trades. Roof designs incorporating a waterproof membrane under overburden such as a vegetative roof, insulation layer, wear-course, or topping slab greatly exacerbate the problem of leak locating.
